Do you have some yeast left? How about making some bread! Try it, it's easy!
Bread Making
Ingredients:
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 tablespoon butter or shortening
1 1/4 tsp yeast
2 tablespoons warm water (110 to 115 degrees)
3 to 3 1/4 c flour
Heat milk until steaming. Stir in sugar, salt, and butter. Cool mixture to lukewarm.
Sprinkle yeast on warm water and stir to dissolve.
Add yeast and 1 1/2 c flour to milk mixture. Beat with spoon until
very smooth. Add flour a little at a time to make a dough that
leaves the side of the bowl. Cover bowl and let rest for 10 minutes.
Turn dough out onto floured board. Knead until elastic, about 10 minutes. Knead by pushing dough away with the heels of your hands, folding in half, and turning one quarter turn.
Pour a small amount of oil in the bottom of a large bowl. Shape dough into a ball and put into bowl. Turn the dough over so its top is coated with oil. Cover and let rise until doubled (about 1 1/2 hours). Punch down, cover, and let rise until doubled again (about 45 minutes).
Remove from bowl and shape into loaf shape. Put in greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour). Bake at 400 degrees for 35 minutes or until brown. Let cool on wire rack.
